Season 3 episode 19 notes

  • Cecil and Lloyd wake up to notice that the snow in Grimwald is slowly thawing. Now that the Storm is over, they will have a normal fall.
  • Sophie brings Lloyd breakfast. He’s slightly confused as to why.
  • Cecil heads out to exercise. He gets a thumbs up of approval from Ivan, who is already doing pushups in the snow.
  • Professor Schröder returns from outside the village, having finally shaken away the last vestiges of Maximus Decimus Meridius. He tells the class to get packing, as the carriages have returned to the village thanks to Harold the groundskeeper. He also tells Cecil that Harold wanted to speak with him.
  • Everyone begins packing.
  • Cecil remembers that his trunk is still at the castle, which collapsed during the Storm. He can’t retrieve it now, but it only contained spare clothes anyway.
  • Lloyd discovers that his bag has mysteriously vanished during the night. He suspects himself of having moved it in his sleep, and goes into Sherlock Lloyd mode to investigate himself – the Napoleon of sleepwalking crime, Lloydiarty!
  • Sherlock Lloyd’s investigations lead him to the cooking pot, where he immediately forgets about the mystery and begins to make breakfast instead.
  • Cecil goes to speak with Harold. They discuss the Count. Harold reveals that he will next hunt down Father Ignatius, to bring him to justice. He hasn’t decided how yet. Harold also tells Cecil, in confidence, that he traveled to Eisenkrone in his youth and met the Eisenkrone Pathfinder.
  • Harold warns Cecil that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
  • Lloyd’s hunt for Lloydiarty takes him to the Witches. He says goodbye to Granny and Tilda, who say they believe they might meet again since Lloyd is so narratively important. Furthermore, they decide to reward him with a totally magical special shoe polish potion that isn’t at all something they just made up on the spot.
  • Lloyd receives a bottle of diluted shoe polish mystical potion that will bestow the imbiber with placebo confidence an especially powerful soul and good luck. He decides to pocket it and give it to a friend in an emergency later.
  • Granny and Tilda furthermore promise him they will deal with the McGuffin.
  • Cecil goes to say goodbye to Alex. Alex and Cecil have a heartfelt conversation about the true meaning of being a Storm Butler. Alex warns Cecil that it involves being a “gentleman’s gentleman” and that part of the job is keeping your Master or Mistress from doing something stupid. It was in this that Alex failed. Cecil also failed when he let Alice take that totally unnecessary bath. They discuss how you should bring your Master not what they want, but what they need.
  • Lloyd says goodbye to Karla, Luzia, Alex, Jasper, and literally everyone else in the village. He still hasn’t found his bag, but on a whim, goes to investigate the carriage and finds it strapped to the roof. Lloyd is mystified.
  • Lloyd gets into a carriage with Anita and Alice. They discuss the Storm a little, Alice talking greatly about how exciting it was to fight on the wall. Anita keeps quiet, still dealing with trauma.
  • Anita reveals that in her absence, Yvain the Dangerous was in charge of the Assassins Club. She regrets not appointing Yngve the Safe, instead. That might have been more wise.
  • Cecil gets in the servant’s carriage, only to find Sophie. He’s now certain that she has sworn herself into service as Lloyd’s maid. Cecil hangs out with Sophie, Violet, Rose, Snowdrop, and Ralph. They plan to gamble, until Sophie reminds them that she now reports to Lloyd, and might tell on them. Horrified, they decide to play Go Fish instead.

~

  • On the way back, Lloyd trains Snowy not to bite people for real, just playfully nip at them.

~

  • The carriages roll into Eisenkrone four or five days after departing Grimwald. Colorful banners decorate the pitch-black building, announcing that the school festival celebrating the Academy’s 1000th birthday is coming up. Under these, there’s a banner reading “Vote for Parsifal!”
  • Cecil quotes from the Big Book of Eisenkrone Rules, that the Student Council is always elected on the day of the School Festival, and that it’s tradition for candidates to sponsor the Festival through various events like charity drives and participating in various contests.
  • Gottlieb instructs Lloyd, Cecil and Gloria to report to him at 6 PM, so that he can assign punishments for their disobedience during the Storm. Gloria and Cecil for getting in a fight, and Lloyd for leading a charge into the Storm without his authorization.
  • Cecil and Lloyd head towards the club house, Cecil and Ralph carrying Alice’s enormous packing together.
  • Cecil runs into Aurora, who is very disheveled with her clothes on wrong and her hair all messy. Aurora fired her entire staff in an attempt to be more independent, to impress Nina like Cecil said. Cecil mentally facepalms. Aurora furthermore says that she’s been following Nina around stealthily to learn more about the peasant lifestyle.
  • They all enter the club and meet Nina. Nina complains about being pursued by a mysterious dwarf with ragged hair and ill-fitting clothes. Cecil explains that it’s probably Aurora, but Nina refuses to believe him – Aurora is really pretty. Besides, this person was wearing a terribly ill fitting disguise, which doesn’t seem like Aurora at all.
  • Lloyd scolds Cecil for implying that Aurora looks like a scary ill-dressed dwarf.
  • Lloyd heads to the gym with Snowy in tow. He presents Snowy to Ryu, explaining how he tamed him but doesn’t have time to look after him all the time. He hopes Ryu would like to adopt Snowy, to get a new pet after Wolfie died. Ryu is overjoyed, especially at hearing that Professor Wolf already approved Snowy. He thinks Snowy is the cutest puppy ever.
  • André gives Snowy a really menacing, scary collar to go with his cuddly appearance. Ryu takes him out for a walk. The Dueling Club gets terrified of Ryu’s new horrifying attack wolf.
  • Cecil talks to Ralph about how inconsiderate people can be. Ralph agrees, while straining to keep holding the super heavy coffer they’ve carried the whole time Cecil stopped to talk to Aurora and Nina. He might be slightly annoyed with Cecil.
  • After depositing the luggage, Cecil goes to take a shower.
  • Evghenia bursts into the shower room. She has letters for Cecil. Cecil, unfazed, lets her deliver the mail even though he’s showering. She gives Cecil a letter from the Engineering Club and a free sample of MANPANTHER GOLD, that Parsifal is sending out to his closest friends. Cecil is pretty sure the free sample is a misdelivery.
  • Cecil thanks Evghenia but remarks that it isn’t very polite to burst in when people are taking a shower. Evghenia explains that she delivered a new algorithm for faster mail delivery, which unfortunately does not take into account people being undressed, or for that matter windows being closed. She’s broken a few.
  • Evghenia leaves. Cecil carefully sets down the MANPANTHER bottle and reads the letter from the Engineers. It turns out they have discovered some of Mr. Dirac’s old designs and want Cecil’s help in assembling them. Cecil, remembering Gunnerdämmerung, realizes nothing good can come of this.
  • Wilhelmina walks into the shower room, averting her eyes when she realizes Cecil is still showering (albeit with the shower stall door closed). As Cecil’s maid, she offers to help him get some fresh clothes, to which he agrees. She sets off with Cecil’s dirty, bloodied and broken school uniform to get a new one.
  • Lloyd goes to his room, to discover his bag! He also discovers Sophie.
  • Sophie explains that she carried the bag there, and also cleaned his room and unpacked for him.
  • Lloyd, with his excellent cunning and deduction skills, finally concludes that when Sophie said she would serve him to repay her debt, she must have meant she would become his maid!
  • Lloyd explains to Sophie that he appreciates the gesture, but he must warn her: One, he has no experience having a maid, at least not since he was a toddler. Two, he will have to keep secrets from her, which he realizes is a terrible faux pas as maids share all their master’s secret. Three, he explains that when she swore her oath to Lloyd Wilder, she didn’t swear it in his true name, which he cannot reveal.
  • Sophie accepts this, saying that she swore her oath to Lloyd Wilder, who saved her. If his name should ever be changed, Lloyd gives her the option to reconsider if he should reveal his true identity. Since the oath was sworn to his name, this won’t violate the Maid Code.

~

  • Wilhelmina returns to Cecil with a fresh school uniform. Thanking her, he gets dressed. Wilhelmina also informs him that she’s arranged a medical cabinet in his room, since he gets hurt so often.
  • Cecil instructs Wilhelmina to get rid of the MANPANTHER bottle. He remembers the dangerous perfume, and the Gold edition must be even worse. Wilhelmina promises to throw it in the trash.
  • Cecil heads to his room to pack the last of his things, then goes to see Professor Anderson.
  • Professor Anderson has returned from the Capital, it didn’t go so well. Principal von Krakow is getting audited by the high nobility. They don’t approve of his pacifism.
  • Cecil explains what happened to Minami, how he caused her to wipe her own mind out of fear for her safety. He explains the whole situation with the Akiyama and the Akatsuki both searching for the Empress, and how Minami was an Akiyama agent seeking to protect her. She suspected the Akatsuki would have sent someone to target her.
  • Cecil says he suspects Viktor of being mind controlled by Clan Kushieda, who serves the Akatsuki.
  • Anderson explains that Minami is stable, but that only Cecil will be able to rouse her from her coma, as it was his mental signature that induced it. Anderson also says that he wove a cover story for Minami – officially, she caught a rare disease transmitted by mindbending which is what knocked her out.
  • Anderson says that Rei has been cured of her amnesia now, but that there are still suspicious memory gaps. Maybe this Kushieda spy caused the memory blocks – it seems Rei’s injury wasn’t caused by head injury at all, but by a sophisticated mindbender…
  • Cecil furthermore explains the events in Alpenfest, and how he drove a man to suicide. Anderson gets moved and hugs him, upset that something so horrible should have to happen to him.
  • Cecil coolly finishes the conversation with Anderson and heads out to take a walk, to try and clear his head. He doesn’t show any emotion, even when Anderson hugs him.

~

  • Delighted to have a maid, Lloyd decides to introduce Sophie to the other maids in the Most Secret And Hidden Order Of Maids, whose head quarters are strictly forbidden to all outsiders except Lloyd (because he made friends with them all).
  • Lloyd is welcomed inside by Rose. He introduces Sophie to all the maids, including Madame Dominique (who takes a break from giving Sanchez special training in a back room. It sounds painful.)
  • Madam Dominique, learning that Sophie has an education from Tempestafiore in Latinia and is already sworn to Lloyd’s service, declares her a worthy member of the Order. She can stay at the Secret Headquarters.
  • Lloyd leaves Sophie in the care of the maids, and heads out to speak to Luke and Ryoko in the Club. He learns that the Dueling Club is having a ball, and that all the assassins were invited. Yvain accepted on behalf of the Club, so Ryoko has to get a ball gown now. She asks Lloyd’s help.
  • Lloyd inquires about Mashiro and Rei and learns that they are on their feet now. He goes to look for Mashiro in the Storm Jesus Fan Club, to which she recently signed up.
  • On the way there, Lloyd bumps into Bartolomeus. Bartolomeus is getting accosted by Dueling Club members who want his opinion on the ball – what food to have and such – because the ball is in his and Gloria’s honor, as they’re big heroes for fighting the Storm.
  • Bartolomeus shoves them away, saying that right now he just wants to pray and kick back with a Storm Jesus comic book. Him and Lloyd enter the Fan Club together.
  • The Storm Jesus Fan Club is full of fanart of Storm Jesus, and students are hotly debating continuity and canon in a corner. Lloyd finds Mashiro just leaving a study group.
  • Mashiro explains that after all that happened to her, she decided to find her own faith – not Cecil’s pragmatic atheism nor Sister Barbara’s extreme fanaticism. So, she’s joined the Storm Jesus Fan Club and is reading the issues about angels.
  • Mashiro is fully recovered from her injuries now, though the scars will stay forever. She is very happy that Lloyd has cared and worried for her. She is even working in the infirmary again as Ryder’s nurse.
  • Mashiro confesses that she stayed bedridden a little longer than necessary, hoping Cecil would come see to her, but he never showed up. She hints that things may definitely be over between her and Cecil after this.
  • Lloyd hugs Mashiro and says he’s glad she’s all right. She thanks Lloyd for being there seeing to her when she was sick.
  • Lloyd goes out in search of Rei.
  • Rei finds Lloyd. She explains how she’s been cured, and how she’s so happy Lloyd is back and that he’s safe. Lloyd immediately hugs her, telling her he’s so happy Rei is back on her feet and that she’s safe. Rei undergoes an inner crisis but eventually regain her calm. She explains the she’s come to realize, in his absence, how much she cares not just about Lloyd, but about all her friends. Lloyd is happy to hear this. Rei goes to seek out Cecil, to check on him.

~

  • Cecil walks past a gaggle of girls, including Tomoe. He overhears them talking about something that will drive boys wild. He spots a golden bottle in their hands, labeled PUSSYCAT GOLD.
  • The girls talk about how it and MANPANTHER GOLD were both experiments made by Amanda Edelweiss, an experiment she started after getting rejected by a boy she liked. Cecil remembers how hopelessly in love Amanda was with him a few months ago.
  • The new perfumes are super powered versions of the old regular perfumes. Cecil intervenes, asking the girls what this is all about.
  • Tomoe gets flustered, claiming the perfume bottle isn’t hers and she’s not trying to win the heart of some boy or whatever.
  • Tomoe tells Cecil that now that the Student Council election is coming up, she must prove her loyalty to the Dueling Club harder than ever, and therefore can’t be seen with Cecil. She seems to regret this a little.
  • Rei finally finds Cecil. She asks if he’s okay. Cecil explains that he was indeed in a Storm but that he should be fine.
  • With absolutely no concern for her own safety, Rei suddenly dives into Cecil’s mind, deep scanning him. She wants to know if he’s suffering Storm Madness.
  • Cecil is shocked. Doesn’t she know looking into a mind touched by the Storm is terribly dangerous?
  • Rei says she’s aware of the risk but that she was willing to take it for Cecil’s sake, to make sure he’s all right. She’s come to learn she cares quite a lot about him.
  • Rei and Cecil hug. They talk a little more, before Rei heads off.
  • Cecil goes to Gottlieb to report for disciplinary action.

~

  • Professor Gottlieb sentences Gloria and Cecil to do dueling practice together. Gloria objects – she’s already a Dueling Club member!
  • Gottlieb says that since they were stupid enough to get in a fight before a Storm, they both clearly need to learn how a proper Knight settles differences – with rule bound honorable duels. Therefore they will spend one entire lesson on just the bow, one entire lesson on just drawing the weapon, et cetera.
  • Gloria and Cecil are dismissed. They have a brief conversation trying to make friends. Gloria extends the possibility of Cecil maybe coming with her to the ball in hers and Bartolomeus’ honor, since he was one of the heroes helping in the fight against the Storm, but Cecil shrugs. He doesn’t care one way or the other.
  • Gottlieb explains to Lloyd that what he did was not a simple soldiers’ mistake. He didn’t just disobey orders. He commanded others without authority. Therefore, he made an officers’ mistake. When you make a mistake as an officer, your soldiers suffer. To make Lloyd learn this lesson, Gottlieb will assign a punishment… to one of Lloyd’s friends. Lloyd must choose which one.
  • A heavy-hearted Lloyd is dismissed, told to return with a name tomorrow morning.
  • Lloyd and Cecil head to the Military History Club, to meet their friends after returning from the trip.
  • With the entire club gathered, Lloyd, Cecil, Jacob, Alice and Akane regale all their club friends with the epic tale of Castle Alpenfest and the Storm in Grimwald. Everyone is impressed. There’s a lot of questions and everyone is excited and happy to have their friends back in one piece.
  • Lloyd and Cecil go back to their rooms to get some much needed rest. Ryoko mentions something about the student council elections and how Lloyd is nom- but Luke interrupts her and says that nothing interesting has happened and they have just nom nomed good food.
  • Lloyd falls asleep peacefully.
  • Cecil, feeling terrible after the journey and having suppressed all his feelings until he’s in private, prepares to cry himself to sleep. Wilhelmina, though, who has just prepared his bed, notices he’s feeling bad.
  • Cecil dismisses Wilhelmina, but she refuses to leave, seeing that Cecil is feeling so terrible.
  • Wilhelmina stays with Cecil through the night, watching over him as the panicked crying sets in. When he finally falls asleep, she pulls the cover over him and makes sure he’s comfortable.

~

  • During the night, André is moving laundry to take a nap on. He can’t find any laundry baskets, so he looks to see if he can find another container. André finds a trash can, empty except for one golden bottle. It’s Cecil’s bottle of MANPANTHER GOLD. André picks it up and tries to taste it, but it’s not tasty at all and he spills it all over the laundry.
  • Disappointed that he can’t take a nap on all these sticky smelly clothes, André returns the clothes to where he found them. The item that got spilled the worst on is Cecil’s school uniform.

~

  • Cecil wakes up with a stuffy nose after the crying. Wilhelmina is asleep on the floor, having set out a school uniform and a big glass of water for him. André helped her procure both of them.
  • Cecil puts on the uniform, and puts a cover over the sleeping Wilhelmina.
  • Wilhelmina wakes up, reacting to the musky scent that surrounds Cecil all of a sudden. The perfume’s alchemical powers are being activated.
  • Wilhelmina apologizes dearly for falling asleep on Cecil’s floor in such an unprofessional way. Cecil shrugs and says it’s okay. He must have kicked off the cover in his sleep, that’s just how it ended up on her. It’s not like he cares about her or anything.
  • Wilhelmina, flustered by her unprofessional behavior, excuses herself.
  • Lloyd wakes up early, noticing Sophie approaching out in the hall. Not wanting to appear indecent and half-dressed before a woman, he hurriedly dresses and makes his bed.
  • Sophie walks in with breakfast, horrified to realize that she’s late – Lloyd is already up and dressed, and has made his own bed.
  • Sophie recoils, expecting a horrible punishment as she’s used to service under Count Adlergriff. Lloyd, however, only smiles and asks if she would like to have breakfast with the Club later, so that she can meet everyone.
  • Lloyd eats the Britannian Breakfast lovingly prepared by Sophie, and then heads out to make breakfast for all his friends.
  • Cecil comes down to breakfast. Lloyd notices his strong smell but says nothing. Nina is the only one who calls him out on smelling weird, but he doesn’t understand her comment.
  • Cecil quickly heads off to head to the post office before work, to see if he can catch up on some work. There must be tons of problems after Evghenia took over as postman.
  • Lloyd introduces his friends to Sophie and tells them all to take good care of her, as she is his new maid and therefore, new friend.
  • Cecil walks into the post office to find Amanda Edelweiss. She’s finally returned to her second job sorting mail.
  • Amanda explains that MANPANTHER and PUSSYCAT are drawing in large amounts of money to the Alchemy Club, but that she still needs to work in the post office because Zelenka earmarked that money for the School Festival, and for Parsifal’s election.
  • Amanda herself is immune to the perfumes, as are all of the alchemists, thanks to special filters that protect against the hypnotic scent.
  • Cecil asks about complaints for Evghenia. There’s a whole stack. Her algorithm for increased efficiency means she goes through windows, ambushes people in compromised situations, and just generally is a nuisance in the name of delivering mail ASAP.
  • Cecil asks Amanda how she’s doing personally. She says that her relationship with Kage is going well, and that Kage even helped her develop the new extra-powerful perfumes.
  • Cecil is worried. Kage is an expert in poisons and mind control, and with his expertise, these perfumes should be able to make people extremely suggestible. They might even leave them vulnerable to mental abilities.
  • Cecil recalls Minami’s vulnerable state, and asks Amanda to buy some of those filters. Amanda gives him a really steep price, since she’s still upset with him for treating her badly when she had a crush on him.
  • Cecil buys expensive filters for 800 marks, and hurries to the infirmary to protect Minami from mental manipulation.
  • As Cecil bursts into the infirmary, he runs into Professor Ryder. Professor Ryder is floored by the MANPANTHER scent in Cecil’s clothes, saying he looks very handsome today. Cecil is shocked and appalled by the power of the perfume.
  • Cecil asks where Minami is and explains that MANPANTHER and PUSSYCAT are potentially dangerous chemical compounds that cloud the mind. Ryder, unfortunately, isn’t listening as the perfume has already gotten to him – he’s too distracted.
  • Cecil bursts in to protect Minami, placing the filters in her nose. As he does, she abruptly wakes up. It seems her mind reacts to Cecil’s, as he was the one responsible for her psychically-induced coma.
  • Minami has total amnesia – she can’t even remember basic concepts and only speaks Nipponese. All she remembers is that her mother sent her on a mission to protect the Empress from the Kushieda. She doesn’t know what an Empress or a Kushieda is. She also remembers Cecil’s name, and her own name. That seems to be all she can recall.
  • Worried, Cecil tries to talk to her to calm her down. Just then, Mashiro steps into the infirmary to check up on the patients before school, since her part-time job is as a nurse.
  • Cecil informs Ryder and Mashiro that Minami has woken up. They both rush in to see to her. Since Ryder doesn’t speak Nipponese, Mashiro volunteers to stay and talk to her, to calm her down.
  • Cecil gushes about how worried he’s been for Minami. Mashiro is jealous of how much he cares about her, especially since she doesn’t know Cecil was responsible for her condition.
  • Mashiro comments that Cecil is drenched in MANPANTHER, but she doesn’t seem to be affected much herself. Cecil finally realizes what’s wrong with his school uniform.
  • Cecil leaves Minami in Mashiro’s hands. The last thing he says to Mashiro is “I’m sorry.” Mashiro responds, “For what?” but Cecil doesn’t answer.
  • Cecil, rushing down the stairs, calls upon Wilhelmina to fetch him a fresh outfit. Wilhelmina appears, as all maids do when their names are called. She hurries to arrange new clothes.
  • Cecil bumps into André while he waits. André explains the mishap with the MANPANTHER bottle last night, but he figured it wouldn’t be too bad to have slightly perfumed clothes. André spilled a lot on himself, and he’s found it fun sport to run away from lovesick girls.
  • Wilhelmina appears with a fresh outfit, and Cecil quickly gets changed right there in the corridor. A sensitive girl becomes witness to this, and faints.

~

  • At the last minute, Cecil makes it to History class. He explains to Prof. Schröder that Mashiro is tending to a patient, it was an emergency.
  • Lloyd welcomes Cecil to class.
  • Professor Schröder holds a class on his recently channeled alter ego, Maximus Decimus Meridius. He’s quite melancholic about it. The class finally understands Schröder’s deep passion for history, and for avoiding wars.
  • History class is followed by a quick Storm Lore class with Professor Wolf. After that, lunch.
  • To their joy, Lloyd and Cecil learn that Gretha Messerschmidt has also recovered from her injuries, and once more serves as lunch lady. Her excellent cooking warms up Lloyd’s and Cecil’s day. Cecil in particular is very happy that she’s back, and hopes that she will return as martial arts teacher as well.
  • Gretha says it’s doubtful. It depends on how much Ivan has changed.
  • After lunch, it’s time for Weapons Mastery Special Training. Cecil heads down to Ritterburg, while Lloyd goes to see Professor Gottlieb…
  • Gottlieb expects Lloyd to select a classmate for his punishment at the end of the day. For now, they focus on training.
  • Gottlieb asks Lloyd to show the katas he has learned with MC Hammer. He pulls them off nearly perfectly. Lloyd is also given the instruction to explain what sort of weapon the hammer is.
  • Lloyd says it’s a weapon for defending, for holding your ground. It makes you less mobile and slow, but it’s excellent for holding a gate. It’s not a weapon that has killed men. It’s a weapon for protecting people.
  • Gottlieb says that he’s correct. He also noticed Lloyd used it for its other purpose shortly before the Storm – to rally people. This is a hammer that you can raise in the air, and declare to the routed forces: Stop! Hammertime.
  • More or less satisfied with Lloyd’s answer and performance, Gottlieb climbs to the top of a set of scaffolding. He now instructs Lloyd to move on to part two of his hammer training – learning to be mobile with it. To that end they will do an exercise called The Kong.
  • Gottlieb will stand at the top of the scaffolding and roll barrels down at Lloyd, who must jump to avoid them while carrying the hammer. Lloyd channels his inner Latinian plumber and beats the challenge with some difficulty.
  • Lloyd sets down the hammer at the end of practice. He’s tired and worried. With concern, he asks Gottlieb that – though he knows he must be disciplined for breaking rank – did he do something good, when he ran off to fight the Storm?
  • Gottlieb pokes Lloyd’s chest with a stern finger. “Off the record? What you did, kid, was goddamn amazing. Dismissed.”
