Season 3 episode 9 notes

  • Cecil goes alongside Schröder to the Principal. Schröder discusses some more about his field trip project with the Principal, then leaves.
  • Cecil asks the Principal how to deal with a strong opponent. The Principal reminds him of the tale of Androcles and the lion.
  • The Principal and Cecil discuss Ivan Honecker for some time, and about how his family guards the eastern borders of Teutonia from the storms that sweep in from the eastern wastelands.
  • Lloyd walks with Alice and Akane from Etiquette class. He discovers a poster for Mikhail’s newspaper, speculating that the Kaiser may have been assassinated by Britannians.
  • Before he has time to investigate, Lloyd encounters Reynard Feist. Reynard compliments him but acts very curious about his friends and about the Blue Oni. Lloyd walks Reynard to the Black Swan and accidentally reveals to Reynard that Reginald spends a lot of time painting.
  • Lloyd meets with Anita to prepare for the Kaiser’s wake.
  • Cecil heads down to the post office to hand out invitations to the memorial service. He runs into Evghenia, who has started working there with her amazing science boots of jumping.
  • Cecil and Evghenia split the route to hand out the invitations. Evghenia covers the Gardening Club, the Alchemy Club, and the Beastmastery section.
  • Cecil bumps into Kain in the Dueling Club. Kain has started his own club, the Fight Club, in the old boxing ring. He’s here to move all of his stuff out of his old room.
  • Cecil hands out invitations to Kain and Parsifal before moving on.
  • Lloyd and Cecil head to the ballroom to put the final hand to the memorial. Soon, guests begin to arrive.
  • Professor Gottlieb is first, he has polished up his armor and is very solemn. He quiets down Kain and all other rowdy elements with angry stares, making the memorial progress very smoothly.
  • Professor Ryder rolls in Mashiro in a wheelchair. He then pours out a drink for the Kaiser, impressing Gottlieb.
  • Lloyd holds a speech about how the Kaiser was a man who wanted peace, and who worked hard to establish peace after the long war. He talks about how it shouldn’t be “us and them”, only “us” and how borders shouldn’t separate people.
  • Gottlieb holds a speech about how he’s seen many good men die, and that the Kaiser recognized that good men die in wars.
  • Cecil holds a speech about the Kaiser’s strength and his ability to protect the borders from scum and villains.
  • Schröder holds a speech about the Kaiser’s observance of history, and about how he knew his past and therefore planned for his future. He hopes his son will be similarly long-lived and foresighted.
  • The memorial progresses with people mingling and talking. Mashiro looks longingly at Cecil, but they don’t speak.
  • Suddenly, Lloyd is taken away from his table with a warning from Mr. Fried: Someone has been sneaking around the secret tunnels near the Military History Club room. It appears as if they’ve been spying on Naimitsu. Mr. Fried can tell because his buckets and brooms had been disturbed, and he leaves them near doors to make sure nobody opens them.
  • The spy probably came from the new club room. Mr. Fried returns Lloyd to the memorial service, and after it ends, Lloyd shares this fact with Cecil.
  • Nina chats some with Lloyd and Cecil. Apparently she never got the dress Wilhelmina was delivering for her, because she was kicked out of the boxing room by Kain, who’s claimed it for his new club.
  • Nina wonders why Aurora would send a dress to Kain. Lloyd explains that it must be because Aurora and Kain are very good friends. Nina misunderstands and thinks Aurora and Kain are dating. She is upset.
  • Mikhail suddenly bursts in, hiding under the table. He says Evghenia is jumping around with a satchel full of explosives. Cecil hurries out to save her.
  • Lloyd confronts Mikhail about his newspaper. Mikhail claims that he interviewed Reynard Feist, who said that it is wise to invest in engineering now that the Britannians (probably) assassinated the Kaiser.
  • Lloyd worries.
  • Cecil tries to catch Evghenia mid-jump, but fails. At this critical moment, her boots malfunction and she crashes into Kain’s new room near the boxing ring. She has just enough time to throw away the satchel, before it explodes.
  • Kain’s room blows up. Evghenia is only mildly injured. Cecil wonders what happened. Evghenia says she took on an extra job, delivering Rafael’s bombs to the Engineering Club who need them for nefarious purposes.
  • Cecil spots the dress Wilhelmina was carrying for Nina – it has been destroyed by the explosion.
  • Kain walks in, wondering who did this! Cecil sends Evghenia to the infirmary and then explains that it was the fault of a mis-delivered explosive, and that the postal service is to blame.
  • Kain is unexpectedly happy about the development. He thanks Cecil for making his room much more badass, and asks Cecil to tell people Kain was in the room when it happened.
  • Cecil wonders where Wilhelmina is, and why the dress is in Kain’s room. Kain explains that he mistook her for a Fight Club applicant, so he shouted at her to go punch a boxing bag.
  • Cecil rescues Wilhelmina from Kain’s boot camp. Just then, Aurora shows up. She looks at the tattered ruined dress in Kain’s room and is upset. Nina sees them argue about the dress, misunderstands the situation and believes she and Kain are dating (or something) and storms out.
  • A frustrated Aurora shouts at Cecil. Cecil explains that to woo Nina, Aurora must learn to do things on her own, without the assistance of a maid. In a fit of determination, Aurora fires Wilhelmina on the spot and resolves to do everything on her own from now, to win Nina’s affection.
  • Wilhelmina is terribly confused. Cecil asks her if she’s ever been in love, trying to explain.
  • Wilhelmina is more confused and thinks Cecil is asking her out. A confusing discussion follows. Wilhelmina has a crush on Cecil, but when it’s revealed Cecil is still in love with Mashiro, she resolves to help him win her back.
  • Cecil gets Wilhelmina a job as a maid in the Military History Club.
