Season 3 episode 11 notes

  • Cecil and Lloyd head to the club room, having just finished putting Alice’s spare things into storage.
  • They meet Gabriel in the club room, who suggests they give the quarters a bit of a make-over, now that they have new members. He suggests new banners, a touch of paint, and generally a more cheerful look to the common quarters.
  • Just as Gabriel leaves to go to a meeting with the Storm Mover Club (of which he’s naturally a member), Alice emerges from the girls’ section of the dormitories. She invites Lloyd and Cecil to come help her put her room in order.
  • Cecil and Lloyd head over to Alice’s room. Ryu is there, holding an extremely heavy dresser, which Alice can’t figure out where to put. Her room is very crammed with the bare necessities for a Britannian lady, as the rooms where originally designed for more spartan living and not meant to house dressers, screens, make-up mirrors and ginormous beds.
  • Lloyd recalls ancient Britannian interior decoration arts, and helps her rearrange the room for more space, more light, and an open, airy feeling with much more joi de vivre. Cecil helps by calculating the exact width, height, and depth of all of Alice’s furniture. The result is a much more pleasant looking room, and an exhausted Ryu who’s carried out all the heavy lifting.
  • Satisfied with their work, the boys part company. Cecil heads to the post office to carry out his postman duties for the day, while Lloyd heads to the kitchen to cook everyone a delicious supper.
  • Cecil enters the post office to find that Evghenia is sorting the mail, since neither Cecil nor Amanda came in today. Evghenia brings up the Engineering Club’s new project, and how they pay members extremely well. She’s puzzled by how much money she gets for being their test pilot. Cecil reminds her the test pilot job almost killed her in a dangerous explosion. Evghenia is unconcerned.
  • As Lloyd finishes supper, he learns from Alice that Nina has locked herself in her room. Apparently it was something Alice said about how Ryu’s stronger than Nina, so Ryu should carry the heavy furniture. Nina took deep offense at this for some reason.
  • A worried Lloyd knocks on Nina’s door. They have a heartfelt talk.
  • Nina reveals that Ivan has been getting to her. He’s right about how she’s too weak, both physically and emotionally. Nina reveals that she feels guilty about Cecil getting beaten up by Ivan. She feels like it’s her fault for being too sensitive and unable to handle a bit of harsh words and humiliation. Cecil felt like he had to protect her, and got hurt in the process. Nina’s angry with herself.
  • Lloyd comforts Nina and says that she doesn’t need to always win or be the strongest to protect her friends. Usually it’s more important to make sure that no one loses. Nina interprets it as that she should be even more diligent in protecting her friends, but she’s at least a little comforted by Lloyd’s words.
  • The Military History Club convenes over a late supper. Naimitsu is there with her two daughters.
  • Lloyd informs everyone that Anita has extended an invitation to go see the Nipponese singer in Ritterburg tomorrow. Everyone in the Club is welcome to join. Lloyd is suspicious of this singer, since she snuck about in the Club at night – but he doesn’t mention this.
  • Minami has a private mindbender conversation with Cecil, explaining that she would like to thank him for saving her from Tomoe’s thugs, earlier this week. She asks if she could buy him a meal in Ritterburg before the performance. Cecil says yes.
  • Cecil tells the table about how he’s hired a maid. Naimitsu is very surprised; she explains that when Wilhelmina suddenly entered Cecil’s room, she assumed it must be the mysterious spy Mr. Fried mentioned, so she caught Wilhelmina and tied her up. She was waiting for Cecil to use his mindbending to interrogate her.
  • A distraught Cecil hurries to his room to rescue Wilhelmina. She is tied up with complicated ninja knots, immobilized on the floor, and has been stuck like that all day. She’s very grateful when Cecil unties her.
  • Cecil takes Wilhelmina down to the common room to give Wilhelmina a decent meal, the first she’s had today.
  • Wilhelmina asks for a room near Cecil’s, so that she can reach him easier in the morning and the evening. Cecil agrees, and gives her Ryu’s old room in the old clubhouse.
  • On their way back, Wilhelmina and Cecil run into Naimitsu. Wilhelmina flinches in fear, but when Naimitsu tries to apologize, she instructs the ninja to direct her apology at Cecil; after all, Cecil was the one inconvenienced by being deprived of his servant.
  • Cecil tries to resolve the awkward situation, but fails. Wilhelmina promises she’ll be a better maid from now on. A real maid shouldn’t get caught and inconvenience her master. Cecil begins to understand a little more of the Storm Maid Oath of Loyalty.
  • Lloyd continues to study Incaland lore in his room, while Cecil studies the Eisenkrone Academy Charter, searching for obscure rules…

  • Cecil is awoken by a disturbing dream. With Wilhelmina sleeping so near by, he’s been accidentally reading her mind in his sleep; she’s dreamed of her memories of being mistreated and scolded by Aurora. Then she dreams of Cecil, her strong, handsome savior – the first person to be nice to her in a long time. In Wilhelmina’s dream, Cecil appears as a flawless bishounen gentleman.
  • Cecil wakes up, half-realizing from the dream that Wilhelmina might have a crush on him. He carefully sneaks out of bed, trying not to alert her, and starts doing his morning exercises.
  • Wilhelmina is woken up by Cecil’s movement and enters with his bathrobe and stays at attention to help him with anything he might need. Cecil is still half-dressed, making her very uncomfortable.
  • After finishing working out, Cecil heads for the showers. Wilhelmina meets Lloyd in the kitchen, and they cook breakfast together. Cecil gets an extra side dish of eggs from Wilhelmina.
  • After a hearty breakfast, the Club goes about with their business for a few hours, until Cecil meets Minami to head out to Ritterburg.

  • Lloyd makes lunch for everyone except Cecil and Minami. It’s a hearty Teutonian meal, cooked with love.
  • Cecil and Minami discuss their backgrounds and their mindbending abilites on their way to Ritterburg. Minami asks if there’s any place Cecil would like to eat, but since there isn’t a Nipponese restaurant in Ritterburg, they settle for Chez Armand, a Frankish restaurant.
  • The waiter mistakes Minami and Cecil for a young couple in love, and gives them violin music and wiggles his eyebrows a lot in insinuation.
  • Minami discusses her fears about letting out secrets. Cecil inquires about her clan, and she is surprised to find he knows that her last name is a pseudonym. “Nichiren” is an old monk’s name, not a true family name. Minami says she isn’t ready to reveal the true nature of her clan. Cecil reveals that he, too, bears a different family name than his “true” one – his mindbending powers aren’t inherited from his Darashia father.
  • Minami reveals that she was born in the Takeda province, which is very calm and peaceful ever since Takeda Ryuji united it, hundreds of years in the past.
  • Meanwhile, Lloyd heads up to the infirmary with warm meals. Professor Ryder is for once in a good mood, saying both Mashiro and Rei seem to be recovering. Prof. Ryder holds Lloyd’s warm meals while he knocks the door, and is let in to see Mashiro.
  • Mashiro is looking out at the early fall. She says it’s her favorite season because of the flying leaves. She feels lonely and scared, but is recovering and has been out of the wheelchair. Lloyd sympathizes. Mashiro says it’s good to know Lloyd cares about her. Lloyd explains that Cecil does too, but between Minami, Amanda, Wilhelmina, Evghenia, Tomoe, and all the other women he’s been seeing, Cecil is really super busy right now.
  • Lloyd accidentally implies things about Cecil and Minami’s lunch in Ritterburg.
  • Lloyd visits Rei in the adjacent room. Rei explains that her injury seems to have triggered her memory edits that she imposed on herself as a girl, so that she’s forgotten almost everything. Especially sad and painful memories are repressed and blocked out. She remembers Lloyd, but little else.
  • Rei asks Lloyd if being in love is painful. Lloyd says he supposes it must be, looking back towards Mashiro’s room, where Mashiro still looks sadly out the window.
  • Rei says that she must speak with Cecil, to see if maybe some time with him might jog her memory. As her closest friend, it seems reasonable.
  • Meanwhile, in Ritterburg, Minami spots Mikhail hiding behind a curtain. Mikhail has been spying on Cecil and Minami and drawn the same conclusion as the waiter – that they’re dating. Given how Minami mentions her “first time”, he draws inappropriate conclusions. Minami was actually talking about deep telepathy.
  • Mikhail leaves. Minami pays for the meal, and together Minami and Cecil go see the cherry tree that was planted in Ritterburg a few years back. Cecil says his first memory of such a tree is as a child, back in Nipponia.
  • Minami says the last time she saw such a tree, was when she said goodbye to her family.
  • Minami has a flashback that she inadvertently shares with Cecil. She’s in a courtyard, her mother stands behind her, and there are banners on the walls. It’s autumn and the cherry tree is there. Her mother says “Minami, you have been chosen”.
  • Minami says she really can’t reveal more about her clan, and is glad Cecil didn’t find out their true identity. She mentions her clan founder, though, a wise woman whom Cecil would probably have liked.
  • Cecil and Minami talk for a bit about loyalty and keeping secrets, before they head out to see the singer perform. They meet up with Anita, Lloyd, Ryoko, Alice, Viktor, and a few other members of the Assassins’ Club and Military History Club.
  • Lloyd talks to Murdo the bartender again. Murdo likes Lloyd so much that he gives everyone a round of chocolate milk, on the house.
  • Cecil is surprised to meet One-Eye Larry, a pirate from the Santa Maria, the ship that took them to Lothringen. One-Eye Larry has reformed thanks to Lloyd, and lives a hearty wholesome life now.
  • The singer takes the stage. Her name is Mai Mokoto, and her music is described as strangely hypnotic. As she begins to sing, Cecil immediately realizes that her song is a powerful form of mindbending – in a style he’s only ever before seen in his brother, Kage!
  • Lloyd manages to resist the hypnotic music by trying to figure out how to play it on the violin. The rest of the audience falls into a trance…
